What Is DVB T And DVB T2

DVB T stands for Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial. DVB T2 stands for Digital Video Broadcasting Second Generation Terrestrial. DVB T2 is the upgraded version of DVB T.So DVB T2 allows additional services and features.In other words DVB T2 is advanced DTT system.It is 50 % more efficient than any other DTT system.DTT stands for Digital Terrestrial Television.

DVB T2 is the broadcasting transmission standard.There is a community rebroadcasting system which provides the signal to the subscribers.This rebroadcasting system can be called as Local TV tower.

This local tv tower works on RF (Radio Frequency) frequencies. DVB T2 supports HD,SD,4k and radio services too.

Like DVB-T, DVB-T2 uses OFDM modulation where OFDM stands for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex. Like DVB S2 ,DVB-T2 uses same ECC (Error Correction Coding) that is LDPC and BCH. LDPC is called Low Denisity Parity Check coding and BCH is called Bose Chaudhuri Hocquengham coding.

DVB-T works on QPSK ,16 QAM and 64 QAM.While DVB T2 can work on QPSK,16 QAM,64 QAM and 256 QAM.Carrier to Noise ratio for DVB-T is 16.7 dB while for DVB T2 is 10.8 dB which efficient for the use of DVB-T2.

Typical Bitrate for DVB T is 24Mbit/s and for DVB-T2 is 40 Mbit/s. Maximum data rate for DVB-T is 31.7 Mbit/s while for DVB-T2 is 45.5 Mbit/s.

As shown below in the figure MPEG 2 multiplexer have the input MPEG 2 or MPEG 4 services. These services


can be HD or SD.This multiplexer produces the output as TS (Transport Stream).This TS goes into the DVB-T2 gateway which gives MPEG 2 TS output. DVB T2 Gateway  receive the data as TS and encapsulate it into the baseband frame. This is IP signal which goes into the DVB-T2 modulators to modulate the signal.

DVB T2 Rebroadcasting

In the figure shown below we are implementing DVB-T2 rebroadcasting system. 1,2,3 are the programs given to the parent Transmitter as input.Parent Transmitter side is transmitting the signal denoted by S1.


This S1 signal is receiving threw child Tx Side.A DTT caster have installed there.The Child Tx Side again rebroadcasting the signal denoted by S2.This signal is received by subscriber from the antenna.Thus subscriber receive the signal 1,2,3 which originally sent by Parent Transmitter Side.

The S1 signal can directly received by subscribers also which is shown in the figure.

The S1 signal is also received by the cable tv headend.A DTT caster have installed there. The output of this DTT Caster goes into the Edge QAM to modulate the signal into RF.This RF signal by the EDGE QAM goes to the subscriber end by passing threw co axial cable.

The EDGE QAM gives the RF output.So there can be different medium to pass the signal to the subscriber end.This can be done by using Optical Fiber Cable and Co axial also.

DVB-T2 Implementation

It have adopted by many countries quickly. These countries are Kenya, Sweden, Qatar, Oman, Serbia, UK, New Zealand, South Africa, Kuwait, Togo, Uganda, Colombia, Russia, Tanzania and Zambia.

    1. Architecture of QAM and EDGE QAM is same….but QAM supports VOD not to Switched digital video streams while EDGE QAM supports VOD and Switched digital video streams….EDGE QAM is used for multipurpose
