Introduction Of SMATV

As we all knows DVB have released several Standards. DVB CS is also one of them. DVB CS represents Digital VIdeo Broadcasting Cable Satellite standard. Here cable and satellite both terms are added because this standard is combination of these two terms which results  SMATV.

So now in this article we will discuss about What Is SMATV_Solution its types and working.

What Is SMATV

SMATV stands for Satellite Master Antenna Television. It is a small scale cable tv solution for Hotel buildings, Hospital Buildings etc. It receive the signal from the satellite and passes through the SMATV_Solution to enable the subscriber for video services as well as audio services too.

This solution is named as SMATV Headend. 

Working Of SMATV

There are two types of SMATV_Solution which can be named as,

(1) SMATV_Type A Solution

(2) SMATV_Type B Solution

 

(1) SMATV_Type A Solution

As shown above in the figure Large dish receive the QPSK signal from the satellite. Which gives IF signal to the Transparent Digital Transmodulator. This transmodulator decode the signal and then modulate it as QAM RF output. Now Distribution Network is a physical cable network for the distribution of cable at various places.

Now After the distribution the RF signal is received by the IRD. This IRD demodulate and decode the signal results Television services as output.

(2) SMATV_Type B Solution

There are two types of Type B Solution described below,

(A) SMATV-IF

(B) SMATV-S

 

(A) SMATV-IF

In this types of the system the received QPSK-IF signal goes directly into the Distribution Network. This is QPSK-IF Distribution Network. This distribution networks in extended IF Band. Now tis IF signal goes directly by this distribution into QPSK IRD.

Now This QPSK IRD demodulate and decode the signal. The extended IF band is above 950 MHz.

(B) SMATV-S

In this type of the system the received IF signal goes into the Frequency Conversion Unit. Where frequency is converted from Extended IF band to Extended S band frequency. Now this QPSK-S band signal goes into the distribution network from where it is distributed in the whole building or network.

Now we use again a Frequency Conversion Unit to convert the extended S band frequency into extended IF band frequency. Then this QPSK IF signal goes as input into the QPSK IRD. Where signal is demodulated and decoded.

Conclusion SMATV

It is a DVB CS standard. It is a small headend implemented in various ways for small scale to provide cable tv services as well as audio services too. It also facilitate us to provide terrestrial channels too. The SMATV_Headend is generally implemented at large hotel and hospitals or at a commercial space to provide television services.
