Multiplexing & Service Information DVB Standards

DVB_SI

DVB SI stands for Digital Video Broadcasting Service Information. PSI SI Tables plays very important part in cable tv industry or catv headend, where PSI is called Program Specific Information. PSI SI information contains various tables like PAT, PMT, CAT, NIT, TDT/TOT, SDT and BAT.  All of these tables are responsible to perform different tasks by STB.

PSI SI tables enable the SET TOP BOX for automatic configure to de-multiplex and decode the streams.

If you want to know in brief about PSI SI Tables then we have covered it in our other article visit HERE

DVB_DATA

DVB data

DVB DATA is known as DVB Data Broadcasting. It defines the standard of DATA Broadcasting. In Transport Streams the data is sent in the Packets. Where each packet have its payload for inserting the data to be send. The service provider sends the data in data pipes.

The data is sent with DATA_BROADCAST_DESCRIPTOR. This descriptor can be one or more than one.  This descriptor contains various information like broadcast id of data, component tag, length of selector and selector byte.

DVB_SSU

DVB updateDVB SSU is acronym for Digital Video Broadcasting System Software Update. This standard represents for the up gradation of receivers software which is served in Digital Video Broadcasting System.

There are two methods for upgrading the software,

(1) Simple Profile Software Update

There are three tables used in this type of software update named as NIT, BAT and PMT. In this method UNT is not required.

(2) UNT advanced profile software update

Where UNT represents the Update Notification Table. We need to define the schedule and target in this method for the up-gradation. Which are not required in Simple Profile Software Update. So UNT is advanced method for upgrading the software.

DVB_SRM

DVB SRM stands for Digital Video Broadcasting System Renew-ability Messages. SRM messages are very important because it is linked with security of content.

SRM messages are the messages sent by the CPS to get back the allotted permissions from the device which is using that CPS’s content.  CPS is called the Content Protection System. SRM messages can send to multiple devices from CPS. So each CPS have its own SRM.

DVB_CMT

DVB url

It is defined as URI for DVB system. Where URI abbreviated for Uniform Resource Identifier. A URI format is composed of two things Graphical Characters and Latin Characters. Both graphical characters and Latin characters are having limited range of use. Also this identifier do not have any space between them.

A example of URI is ”=’@’ etc.

There are some characters which didnt comes under latin which are also used by a standard mapping system.

Whereas a Digital Video Broadcasting URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is used to access the broadcast services. A DVB URL is composed of Network ID, Transport Stream ID and Service ID etc.

DVB_TVA

DVB TVA stands for Digital Video Broadcasting TV Anytime. TV Anytime Forum explain two things. Content information and metadata information.

These two things can be run on Internet Protocol Network as well as on Broadcast Network. So for the broadcast network if a receiver wants to access the content information then it will be find in content referencing services. While in case of if receiver wants o access the Metadata information then it will be in metadata services which can be found in linkage.

DVB_FF

DVB FF is acronym for Digital Video Broadcasting File Format. It is a standard which defines specification to store and play the Digital Video Broadcasting services. These file formats are used to store the content which are broadcasted.

There are three types in which audio video data content can be stored. The content can be stored in RTP Streams, MPEG 2 Streams and we can also store it as media track.

DVB_GSE

DVB GSE stands for Generic Stream Encapsulation.  GSE is a data link layer protocol used for the encapsulation. This protocol encapsulate the IP network packets on generic physical layer. where generic physical layer is also known as uni directional physical layer. Some of examples are DVB T2, DVB S2 and DVB C2.

It supports various protocols for encapsulation like IPV4, IPV6, MPEG and ATM etc. It also supports for hardware filtering.

There are various GSE Encapsulators available known as GSE modem and GSE Routers. These devices have one Ethernet Port as input and other for output of standard format. Output of these devices goes into the modulators of DVB T2, DVB C2 and DVB S2.
